Answers to Questions

Hi Alan and Carol – here are the answers to your questions- love George and Louis

Q1: In your Anzac project, do you think it was a smart move to invade the stoney beach at Gallipoli where there were lots of defenders with machineguns defending the bay? It was a very dumb place to land because they had to climb a step hill. The defenders could easily get them because they were up the top. Many soldiers died on the beach at the bottom.  

Q2. Who were the foreign invaders, and who were defending their homeland at Gallipoli? The invaders were New Zealand, Australia, Britain and France. The Turkish people where defending their homeland with the help from Germany.

Q3. Why do NZ cities hold dawn services to commemorate the landings at Gallipoli, and what happens at the services? They do it to remember all those who have died in all wars. They do prays and songs at the services.

Q4. What is Kakadu and where is it? How do you get there? It is a national park about 300km from Darwin. It is a world heritage site for its culture and environment. You can drive there. It is full of crocodiles, snakes and birds and famous aboriginal art.

Q5 Can you swim in the Adelaide River? Would you like to float down it in a rubber? You can’t swim in the river because it is full of crocodiles, about 10000 of them!
                                                                        
Q6. When climbing around rocky cliffs what do you do to be extra careful? When climbing around cliffs you need to hold on tight and watch were you put your feet. I fell 6m in the Karijini National Park!

Q7. What sort of snake is a python? Does it have poisonous fangs? What does it eat and how does it catch its food? A python is a very large snake. It does not bite and is not poisonous but squashes its prey. It eats birds, mammals, rats and lizards.

Q8.How did the people who lived in Australia 5000 year ago make pictures on the rocks? The pictures tell many stories and legends. The colours are made from different rocks and water. They used sticks and rocks as paint brushes.

Q9. Who eats those delicious ratburgers shown in your picture? The kids at Zoe’s school eat the Ratburgers and we eat them every night in Darwin. They are delicious!

Q10. Where is the best water slide you have been on? How long was it, and do you drop into the deep water at the end? The best slide is the straight in Darwin. It is 100 feet high and 100 metres long!

I am most impressed by your anwers to the questions. So I am making up another list, and Carol has a special quizz which she will send in her letter this weekend. Great work on the home schooling front. Watch out for those snakes!
